Colorado City

A message from the mayor:

The crisis was so bad it got its own Wikipedia page. There are many harrowing anecdotes from the crisis, but the one seared into my memory is 11 year old Cristian Pineda dying while keeping his 3 year old brother warm through the night. It is unfortunate that, in Mayor Boyd’s words, that Cristian wasn’t strong enough to be one of the survivors. TBH, amazing to see this kind of Social Darwinism from the creationists.

But as with any scandal, Boyd had to resign not because he told a lie, but because he told the truth. While government serving the people is what we would like to believe it does, the truth is very much the opposite.

The cold temperatures that swept across the US devastated only Texas. It got much colder in the Dakotas, but the liberal hippies that run those states were ready for sharp changes in climate. But the woke cancel culture mob that runs the power grid in neighboring Louisiana was also prepared for the cold surge. So what gives — why do we only hear about children sacrificing themselves for other children in Texas?

The answer is that decades ago Texas separated its power grid from the rest of the country. This way, they could avoid federal regulations that demanded they a) prepare for winter storms and b) charge energy users a fair amount of their energy. See, Texas believes that the market should determine everything. And the market decided it likes as much money as possible. So much so that it charges Texans billions more to keep the lights on.

Oops, accidentally pasted a link from the left wing media outlet the Wall Street Journal. That’s about how much they paid before the 2021 storm. Here’s the cost of that one.

…though I think it’s very clear who is going to be paying that bill. The electricity system of Texas is one component in a system designed to extract wealth from the lower classes to transfer to the upper classes. The problem with the polar vortex wasn’t just that it caused immense suffering, but rather that it exposed that it was never designed with protecting the people in mind — in fact the more they suffer, the more they pay. This wasn’t a failure of the system, but rather a success. They successfully turned a climatic disaster (part of an upcoming exciting series) into significant shareholder value. But there’s obviously a political scandal here, meaning there is a valuable opportunity to feed into people’s biases to convert genuine anger into comfortable partisan tribalism.

Bravo.
